Benjamin Vautier (1829-1898) was a genre painter from Switzerland and studied under Jules Hébert and Lugardon. He travelled to Paris and later to Düsseldorf, where he studied at the academy of art. He became well known by his pictures showing the rural population and farmers on sundays and holidays.
