Giovanni Piranesi (1720-1778) was born in Mogliano close to Venice and died in Rome. We was an architect and an engraver. In 1740 Piranesi went to Rome where he studied and drew the architecture of the Antiquity and the Renaissance. From these drawings he engraved his copperplates. His engravings of views of Rome had a great influence on the European architecture of the Classicism.
