Boucher
Francois Boucher (1703-1770) was a painter, a drawer and an engraver. He was the court-painter of king Louis XV and the marquise de Pompadour. His portrait of Mme de Pompadour is one of his best known pictures within our collection. His scenes from the plays of the dramatist Jean-Baptiste Poquelin (aka Molière) show his engagement with the theatre. This passion also made him work as a decorator of french rococo at the opera houses at his time. These scenes stand for the fleshly motives that made Boucher famous.
