Franz Hanfstaengl was a renowned photographer and invented a new process for etching photographs onto copperplates and to make the printing plates still exisiting today. By this technique – the socalled heliogravure – he succeeded reproducing many famous paintings in a unique quality. Franz Hanfstaengl visited the most famous museums and galeries all around the world and created a collection of heliogravures containing well known masterpieces like the »Mona Lisa« by Leonardo da Vinci, the »Creation of Adam« by Michelangelo, the »Girl reading a letter« by Vermeer or »Woman at the window« by Rembrandt.
