Hortus Eystettensis
Pharmacist Basil Besler (1561-1629) lived in Nuremberg and Eichstett. His wide botanic interests emerged in his detailed drawings of rare plants and flowers. His pictures of Hortus Eystettensis, published as a book in 1613 are unmatched. The book contains 367 drawings of 1,084 plants that were cultivated in the prince-bishop's garden at the Willibaldsburg. These images were later engraved to copper plates by 6 engravers to to allow a reproduction of this unique documentation.
